Fortunately, LD 24 is not beset with the same levels of violent crime that we see in other areas of the state. That said, steps must always be taken to support Law Enforcement in protecting citizens that are going about their business from violent crime.
Property crime is a more significant problem for us. These crimes are typically committed by a small number of individuals with organized gangs at the root. Steps must be taken to focus on those individuals and shut them down.
Juvenile crime is always an important area of focus. This is where kids are at a crossroads in their lives. It is important that they are encouraged to take the correct course and to stay on that course. We must strengthen and enhance the programs that help steer kids in the right direction and support them constructively on that path. Punishment must be the tool of last resort in addressing Juvenile Crime.
